Healthy Habits Have a Snowball Effect
Each decision we make has a consequence. Have you ever been having the best day, the sun is shining, you wake up early, you feel great, you get out of bed with energy, you do a workout and make a healthy meal? It feels like you’re unstoppable. Good things are attracted to you.
How about one of those days where you miss your alarm, you stub your toe on the way to the kitchen, spill your coffee, and it seems like the day continues to get worse and worse?
Our choices and habits have the tendency to snowball and gain momentum.
When we are thinking positively, we tend to take positive actions and choose healthy habits. The more we choose positive, the more healthy actions we want to take for ourselves.
The same is true for negative thoughts and actions. Being in a negative thought pattern can gain momentum and lead to self-sabotage, a dark place that’s hard to see the way out of.
If you’re having a hard day, you can turn it around by becoming aware of your negative thoughts and re-routing them. It’s difficult in the moment to turn your momentum around. Luckily, each day we get a fresh start at being human. We have the ability to choose to have a good day every single morning.
It’s important to recognize the impact of our thoughts and actions. Our minds are very powerful. What we think about is what becomes our reality around us.
Choosing to be grateful when you wake up, taking time to make a healthy breakfast and prioritizing your workout will set you up for a wonderful day!
You Can’t Go back, Only Forward
If you’ve chosen unhealthy habits and fallen into a state of hopelessness toward making a change, you are not alone.
Sometimes we get caught in a spiral of how our past actions have accumulated to make us who we are, but we can’t change the past. We can only move forward with new knowledge and motivation to bring the change into being.
We are not who we were in highschool or college. In fact, we might not even recognize that person anymore. It’s a beautiful thing to change, grow and learn, and we must accept who we are in each new stage and work on THAT person, not try to go back to how we looked in our past.
All we have is today, right now. What will you choose?
Accept That You Are the Only One Responsible for How You Are
When looking at our past, it’s easy to put the blame for our current state on our partner, our kids, our job or some other outside circumstances. Upon further reflection, it’s truly only our actions that are responsible for how we are.
If your friends and family want you to be healthy but you don’t truly want to make that change, you never will.
No one else is responsible for your current habits and actions, or your actions in the past.
Taking responsibility for our own actions and deciding internally to commit to ourselves is the first step toward true change. Only when we look inward and find the inner strength and discipline to make a change will we be able to successfully transition to a healthy lifestyle.
Choosing to think and act on healthy habits consistently will lead to more and more positive changes. Over time, these positive choices will lead to a lifestyle change that will last.
